PEFC Forest Positive Packaging Award 2026: Showcasing Indonesia’s Leadership in Sustainable Packaging

As sustainability expectations continue to grow, the packaging industry is undergoing a major transformation. Across Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region, brands are increasingly replacing fossil-based packaging with renewable, fibre-based alternatives. While paper and paperboard are renewable materials, their environmental value depends on one crucial factor—the fibre must come from sustainably managed forests.

Responsible sourcing has therefore become an essential part of sustainable packaging. As regulations strengthen and customers demand greater transparency, forest certification provides businesses with independent assurance that their fibre originates from responsibly managed forests and verified supply chains.

To recognise companies leading this transition, PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and Indonesian Forestry Certification Cooperation (IFCC), in partnership with the Indonesian Packaging Federation (IPF), is proud to present the third PEFC Forest Positive Packaging Award.

Recognising Forest-Positive Leadership

The PEFC Forest Positive Packaging Award celebrates organisations that incorporate PEFC-certified forest-based materials into innovative packaging solutions. The award goes beyond recognising packaging innovation by highlighting companies that place responsible forest sourcing at the heart of their packaging solutions.

By choosing PEFC certified fibre, businesses help protect biodiversity, support local communities, promote responsible forest management and contribute to climate action, while providing customers with confidence in the origin of the materials they purchase.

At the same time, certification is becoming an increasingly valuable business tool. As governments introduce stronger environmental regulations and procurement requirements, and global brands raise their sustainability expectations, PEFC certification helps companies demonstrate responsible sourcing, strengthen customer confidence and support market access both domestically and internationally.

Indonesia Driving Sustainable Packaging

Indonesia has established itself as a leader in sustainable pulp, paper and packaging production. As demand for fibre-based packaging continues to grow across food and beverage, retail, healthcare and e-commerce sectors, Indonesian manufacturers are well positioned to supply both regional and global markets.

Previous winners of the PEFC Forest Positive Packaging Award demonstrate how responsible sourcing and innovation go hand in hand.

Riau Andalan Paperboard International received the 2024 PEFC Forest Positive Packaging Award for its innovative Eco-Hex paperboard solution, which showcases how responsibly sourced, PEFC-certified fibre can be transformed into high-performance, fibre-based packaging. The award recognised the company’s commitment to advancing forest-positive packaging solutions while promoting sustainable forest management through the use of PEFC-certified materials.
